3 Helpful Tips to Balance Your Home Furnishings Investment

At every initial consultation, my clients are excited and have lots of links of items they liked, Pinterest boards and a very loooong list of things they want to do to their space. As I walk them through my process, one of the first important steps is setting up a budget for every room. Yes, I know it's the least favorite subject when dreaming but without it, we'll definitely run into trouble and disappointment.

Tip #1: Invest Intelligently in Daily-Use or Design-Critical Items

With guidance and a smart checklist, we can identify the items where we can splurge a bit more. It may be a "wow' piece that will really make the room unique or a functional, durable item that will be used often. There's always that one lighting fixture, that accent chair, or a quality sofa that that merit allocating a bigger portion of the budget.

Tip #2: Save Strategically on Pieces and Spaces Used Less Often

Now that we have the items that bring the design together, we still have a list of many pieces to complete the room. We may need to lower the level of finish in certain items that will less wear and tear. When designing a home, we can put pretty, inexpensive pieces in an entry way but a high-end sectional in the family room.

Tip #3: Plan Prior to Any Purchases Alongside a Home Professional

You are working with a designer, so you want the look but the budget can be managed so you don't break the bank. It's all in the planning. Even more so, when we are working with renovations. Whatever project you tackle in a home can be a big investment and the right financial planning to get the finish line will be worth it when you see the completed and styled room.

Of course, you don't have to do it alone. A big part of a designer's job is to create beautiful spaces with a realistic budget. We make sure that the big investment is used wisely to achieve the goals of our clients. I'm constantly searching for new product lines, vendors, that delivery quality and value to my customers. When we make a design strategy that is all-inclusive, they vision for your dream home becomes a reality
