Interior Designer 101: What You Need to Know Before Working with Us

We all want that HGTV moment of walking into a beautiful decorated home. It would be so nice to give the house key to a team of experts that can transform a space while we are laying on the beach sipping margaritas. If only.

There is a time to hire a designer but surprisingly many times is not. How do you know for sure?

1.) Do You Know What You Want & Can You Articulate That?

The most frustrating moment for a client is when a designer presents a beautiful moodboard and renderings and it is not what they envision at all. Clients don't need to be specific but they should have a big picture goal for their home. Communicating the overall feeling of a space is important if not set on a style or color palette.

2.) Are You Prepared to Invest Wisely & Practice Patience?

Design TV shows, for editing purposes, show but a fraction of what goes on behind-the-scenes and the hours, days and months that projects take. Clients often have to wait weeks between design meetings while designers put all the pieces together. Interior design involves a lot of elements and the process can be quite lengthy. Designers also work with client budgets but doing a room from top to bottom at once can surprise how much needs to be invested at once. In order to get the full white glove experience of having a room redone by a designer, clients need to know the level of investment it would take from the beginning.

3.) Do You Love to Delegate & Trust Others with the Details?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that designers run wild with their ideas and it's all about the "wow" factor. Yes, designers love pretty things but the biggest responsibility is the home needs to reflect the client style and work in their lifestyle. So it is our job to ask all the questions, present the ideas, and work all the details to achieve the CLIENT's goal. Trust is a big part of the client-designer relationship that is not taken lightly. We work with different levels of service to help those who want someone to take care of all the details or those who just need a consultation to get the confidence to DIY.

For busy people, who have jobs, family, hobbies, outsourcing the daunting task of redesigning a room or a whole house can be freeing. With a professional, who will listen to the needs and wants of clients and can interpret your ideas and materialize them, it can be a wonderful, enjoyable experience.

If you would love some support creating your happiest home, we would love to help. Reach out and let's get to know each other.

Until next time,

Andrea
